Santa Clarita is the northern boundary of my service area — about 30 minutes up the 5 from Burbank, covering Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch.
The housing here is dominated by planned communities built from the 1970s onward, which is a completely different technical picture from the older cities closer to Burbank. These are newer homes with modern wiring, grounded outlets, drywall rather than plaster, and generally sound plumbing. The work is less about old-house problems and more about systems: whole-home networking in two- and three-story homes, camera systems, home theater, appliance service on units hitting the 10–15 year mark, and a very large amount of backyard project work.
That last category is significant. Santa Clarita backyards are big and the summers are hot, so pergolas, patio covers, shade structures, above-ground pools and outdoor living projects are constant. And the heat matters technically — SCV routinely runs hotter than Burbank, which stresses garage refrigerators, attic-mounted equipment and outdoor camera housings.
